PORTFOLIO PROFILE

dstry:evrtyng
is a design and art direction studio in Tokyo ( Japan ) and Florence ( Italy ). Since 2007 the studio has worked on identity, editorial, and large-scale installations. Led by Giovanni Antignano, it also directs projects built with partner studios, across architecture, retail, fashion, music, and culture.

The name describes the method. Every project starts by taking the brief apart: the habits, the references, the obvious answer. What survives is the work.

dstry:evrtyng is a design and creative direction studio in Tokyo ( Japan ) and Florence ( Italy ).

Since 2007 the studio has worked on identity, editorial, and large-scale installations.
The name describes the method. Every project starts by taking the brief apart: the habits, the references, the obvious answer. What survives is the work.

Spatial design and installations

Space
Interiors + fixtures

Shops, showrooms and restaurants, from the facade to the last shelf. Walls, counters, displays and furniture are designed around how people move through the room, and built to take daily use.
Projection
Mapping + light

Projection on facades, ceilings, domes and objects, and light installations that change what a room is. Every piece of content is made for the surface it lands on, never resized from a screen.
Systems
Hardware + software

Projectors, screens, sensors and media servers built into the architecture and kept out of sight. Software written for the job, so the installation runs every day without anyone standing next to it.

Film and motion

Direction
Concept + shoot

Fashion films, campaigns and music videos, from the treatment to the final cut. A small crew and a clear idea of what the film leaves out, decided before anyone picks up a camera.
Motion
Animation + graphics

Animated pieces and motion graphics for windows, screens and projection. Each one built for the format it will play in, from a phone to the side of a building.
Live
Real-time visuals

Visuals for concerts, clubs and stages, played live to the music in the room rather than looped from a file. The practice comes from years of performing alongside DJs and musicians.

Identity and art direction

Identity
Mark + system

The logo, the typeface and the few colours that carry a name, plus the rules that keep them consistent once other people start using them. Drawn to work at the size of a label and the size of a building.
Image
Campaigns + photography

Campaign and lookbook shoots, from casting and location to the final selection of pictures. The images are planned together with the identity, so the two read as one brand.
Application
Print + screen + space

Packaging, signage, stationery, websites and shop windows. Every piece is tested where it will actually be used, not on a presentation board.

Editorial design

Format
Paper + size + binding

Books, catalogues, magazines and artist editions. How the publication will be held and read decides the paper, the size and the binding, before any layout starts.
Layout
Type + grid

Typefaces chosen for the text they have to carry, and grids that give images room. Pages that stay easy to read from the first spread to the last, in print and on screen.
Production
Proofs + press

Paper tests, proofs and press checks. The studio follows every job to the printer, because the last decisions on a book get made on press.
